About the position

The Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Clinical Nurse Educator at McKesson plays a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care and counseling for patients enrolled in the Medication Therapy Program. This position requires a passionate nurse who is committed to educating patients about FDA-mandated medications, ensuring medication adherence, and maintaining compliance with industry standards. The role involves collaboration with pharmacy support teams and requires excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel and educate existing patients on REMS FDA-mandated medications.
  • Read a list of statements to the patient verbatim as part of the REMS program.
  • Ensure patients and their caregivers are educated on their current therapy and medication adherence.
  • Schedule medication refill deliveries and collect copays, if applicable.
  • Adhere to contracted and accrediting regulations as indicated by drug specifications.
  • Complete thorough and accurate documentation utilizing good documentation practices and compliance to industry standards and regulations.
  • Discuss potential/current side effects with patients to educate about treatment alternatives and facilitate ongoing therapy adherence.
  • Identify and report adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to the manufacturer, FDA, and/or other governing authorities.
  • Verify specialty drugs and provide education.
  • Act as a provider/patient conduit to support therapeutic longevity.
  • Maintain patient demographic records and medical history in accordance with federal HIPAA standards.
  • Collaborate with Pharmacy Support teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of specialty drugs.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing or accredited nursing diploma.
  • Registered Nurse with current unrestricted compact state license or primary NC licensure.
  • 4+ years of relevant nursing experience, with at least 2 years of nursing experience preferred.
  • 1 year of inpatient or outpatient care experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with experience in motivational interviewing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with reading, analyzing, and interpreting practice standards, professional journals, technical procedures, and government standards and regulations.
