About the position

The Risk Management HC Professional 4 at UCI Health plays a crucial role in the implementation of comprehensive risk management and loss-prevention programs across the Medical Center. This position is integral to identifying, promoting, and sustaining patient safety from a risk management perspective. The incumbent will conduct thorough investigations of adverse patient events and outcomes, making informed recommendations for programmatic changes that enhance patient safety and risk reduction. This role also involves the development of educational plans and the delivery of training designed to improve patient safety and mitigate risks. The professional will provide consultation in the areas of patient safety and risk mitigation, ensuring that all practices align with the highest standards of care and compliance. In addition to these responsibilities, the Risk Management HC Professional will collaborate with various departments and stakeholders within the organization to foster a culture of safety and accountability. This includes engaging with faculty and staff across all disciplines to ensure that risk management strategies are effectively communicated and implemented. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying potential risks and developing strategies to address them before they result in adverse outcomes. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload while coordinating multiple assignments and projects effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Medical Center wide risk management and loss-prevention programs.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of adverse patient events/outcomes.
  • Make recommendations for programmatic changes to enhance patient safety.
  • Develop educational plans and deliver training on patient safety and risk reduction.
  • Provide consultation in the areas of patient safety and risk mitigation.
  • Engage with faculty and staff across all disciplines to promote risk management strategies.

Requirements

  • Strong data analysis experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and provide leadership in a consultative role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple assignments and projects.
  • Ability to consult on complex risk and legal issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum three years of experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Minimum five years of experience in healthcare risk management.
  • Legal or paralegal training (CPHRM).
  • Current California RN license.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM).
