About the position

The Risk Management Lead at Argonne National Laboratory is responsible for guiding and enhancing the laboratory's risk management framework across various scientific and operational initiatives. This role is crucial for ensuring effective identification, analysis, and management of risks associated with projects and programs that are vital to advancing science and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the PMO's risk management program, developing and implementing risk management frameworks, processes, tools, and training.
  • Facilitate risk assessments for projects, programs, and portfolios, ensuring effective identification and mitigation of risks.
  • Advise leadership and project teams on risk management strategies and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to address risks impacting project and laboratory success.
  • Analyze and trend risk-related data to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain policies, tools, guides, and reporting mechanisms for ongoing risk management efforts.
  • Lead and facilitate regular team risk meetings to foster collaboration across teams and departments.
  • Attend external risk and project controls working group meetings across the lab complex.
  • Support project objectives by reviewing resource-loaded schedules, budgets, and associated documentation for risk impacts.
  • Ensure integration of risk management practices with Argonne's project management requirements.
  • Represent the PMO in inter-organizational and external collaborations to promote effective communication and teamwork.
  • Present risk management processes, procedures, and analysis at project reviews.
  • Engage in and contribute to the Argonne Mentoring Program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, engineering, statistics, economics, mathematics, management or related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in project risk management, project controls, and project management.
  • Risk Management Professional certification from PMI or AACEi (current or within 1 year of hiring).
  • Strong knowledge of project and risk management theories, principles, tools, and techniques, including Monte Carlo analysis.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining risk management plans for large-scale projects.
  • Proficiency in Earned Value Management (EVM) methodologies and compliance with DOE project management requirements.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to deliver against demanding project goals and regulatory guidelines, especially DOE O 413.3B, DOE G 413.3-7A, and EIA-748.
