About the position

Recruit Secure is collaborating with a large, highly rated Assisted Living Facility (SMF) located in the West Orange, NJ area that is seeking an experienced Risk Manager for direct hire. The Risk Manager is responsible for mitigating patient health risks and developing and implementing policies and processes to ensure the facility's safety and accountability. This role is crucial in ensuring that all occurrences and incidents within the Assisted Living Facility (ALF) are thoroughly investigated and reported according to the Department of Health (DOH) and the facility's policies and guidelines. The Risk Manager will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the effectiveness of the risk management program and will be responsible for educating and counseling staff on best practices in risk mitigation. As a key member of the leadership team, the Risk Manager plays an essential role in maintaining the facility's standards and compliance with healthcare regulations. The Risk Manager will conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential risks to patient safety and security. They will investigate, determine, and report all incidents according to the New York State Department of Health policy, assessing liability and financial risks to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. The Risk Manager will also be responsible for reporting on all ongoing investigations to the Administrator and corporate team members, implementing mitigation strategies, assessing their effectiveness, and making necessary revisions. Additionally, they will initiate and direct all investigations and notifications to authorities, issue timely reports to regulatory agencies, and represent the facility during audits, inspections, and investigations by governing authorities. Knowledge of how to defend complaints against the facility and/or staff is also essential, along with coordination with labor laws, health compliance, and risk prevention that align with state guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct risk assessments and audits on a regular basis to identify potential risks to patient's safety and security.
  • Investigate, determine, and report all incidents according to the NYS DOH policy.
  • Assess liability and financial risks to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Report on all ongoing investigations to the Administrator and corporate team members.
  • Implement mitigation strategies, assess their effectiveness, and make revisions accordingly.
  • Initiate and direct all investigations and notifications to authorities.
  • Issue timely reports to regulatory agencies and authorities.
  • Represent the facility at all audits, inspections, and investigations by governing authorities.
  • Knowledge on how to defend complaints against facility and/or staff.
  • Coordinate with labor laws, health compliance, and risk prevention that are up to date with the state's guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Business Administration, or Criminal Justice field.
  • At least 3 years of operations and clinical experience in healthcare, including quality assurance and risk management.
  • Prior experience in a Risk Management role in healthcare (ALF or SNFs).
  • CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management) or CPPS (Certified Professional in Patient Safety) is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of working experience in Assisted Living facilities.
  • Good understanding of DOH and State regulatory compliance laws and policies, i.e., OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission.
  • Experience with assessing risks and financial liability.
  • Experience with writing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams, counseling and educating on risk mitigation.
