About the position

The Risk Safety Inspector position within Clayton County Government is crucial for maintaining an effective safety and loss control program. A key requirement of this role is to become a certified instructor for the National Safety Council’s Defensive Driver Training within the first year of employment. The inspector will also be responsible for making policy recommendations regarding safety, health, and industrial hygiene, maintaining and revising safety manuals, and designing a safety administration structure that includes departmental representatives and review panels. The role also involves analyzing accident data to determine necessary changes in safety regulations, investigating accidents that result in significant injuries or property damage, and ensuring that corrective actions are taken. The inspector will communicate findings through reports and written materials, ensuring that all personnel are informed of safety procedures and regulations. This position requires a proactive approach to safety, including the ability to halt operations deemed hazardous and to conduct safety orientations and relevant training sessions. Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety and loss prevention audits and inspections of County departments and operational units.
  • Inspect County facilities for hazardous conditions and acts that endanger safety and health.
  • Troubleshoot potential problems at the request of the Director or respective departments.
  • Assist in analyzing potential loss-producing characteristics of County operational changes.
  • Visit work areas and assess compliance with County safety regulations.
  • Prepare documentation of safety violations, hazards, or potential liabilities and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate and conduct safety and loss control training programs for County employees.
  • Identify additional training needs to address problem areas.
  • Become a certified instructor for Defensive Driver Training.
  • Make policy and procedure recommendations regarding safety, health, and industrial hygiene issues.
  • Maintain and revise Safety manuals.
  • Design and maintain a safety administration structure including departmental representatives and County-wide review panels.
  • Analyze accident data to determine if changes are required in County safety regulations.
  • Investigate accidents resulting in lost time, hospitalization, death, and/or extensive property damage.
  • Prepare and distribute reports of findings and ensure proper corrective action is taken.
  • Communicate and publish written materials for distribution to all personnel.
  • Ensure County compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Advise management of new and existing laws governing the safety and health of employees.
  • Monitor work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
  • Initiate actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Recommend to department directors the halting of any operation/activity considered hazardous.
  • Conduct safety orientation and other relevant training.
  • Design and maintain reports via Microsoft Office Professional Software.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, supplemented by three (3) years of experience in safety and loss prevention.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain valid National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course Instructor Certification within twelve (12) months of employment.
  • Must obtain Associate in Insurance (AINS) within twenty-four (24) months of employment.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and Microsoft Office Professional Applications.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and County safety policies and established best practices in Loss Control.
