About the position
The Risk Solutions Claims Internship at Great American Insurance Group is designed to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of the claims department and its interactions with other functions within the organization. This internship, lasting 10-12 weeks during the summer of 2025, offers a pathway to a potential career in claims within the insurance industry, allowing interns to engage in meaningful assignments and gain exposure to various claims functions.
Responsibilities
- Participating in special projects within the claims group as assigned
- Learning about claim handling within Risk Solutions including initial coverage analysis, first contact, investigation, resolution strategy, technical letter writing, and negotiation
- Working with the claims team to enter claim notes, update the loss description database, and perform other team functions
- Learning and utilizing the various claims systems, programs, and databases
- Completing various reading assignments, self-study courses, and case studies on a diverse range of topics
- Participating in seminars and workshops, including Claims College, Great American University and Corporate Claims offerings
- Networking with other interns, employees, and leaders throughout the organization
Requirements
- 3.5 preferred GPA, with a 3.0 minimum GPA for consideration
- Proven leadership skills through work experience, campus involvement, or extracurricular activities
- Superior communication, analysis, planning, and organizing skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage self-directed projects
- Current students in a bachelor's degree program in finance, economics, management, marketing, English, journalism, or related fields
- Attention to detail with experience in spreadsheets, database management, and information technology platforms
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in insurance and risk management coursework
- Prior internship or co-op experience
