About the position

The Risk and Underwriting Senior Advisor role at Express Scripts is a pivotal position responsible for developing and managing pricing strategies to support Sales and Account Management for both renewing and new sales clients. This role involves leading complex pricing activities, conducting risk assessments, and providing training to junior analysts. The advisor will also engage in customer negotiations and ensure compliance with pricing guidelines, all while aiming for profitable growth and effective communication with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert content and professional leadership on complex Risk & Underwriting assignments/projects.
• Manage assigned book of business focused on attaining profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
• Perform case-specific risk assessments.
• Conduct account level rate development and customer negotiations on a complex book of business.
• Develop and monitor account earnings plans to achieve growth and profitability.
• Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, products, and pricing.
• Partner with sales department and brokers to deliver customer presentations and act as a financial consultant on case-specific issues.
• Influence underwriting best practices and provide input to matrix partners on product development and pricing.
• Conduct ad hoc analyses with potential financial impact, such as evaluating changes in formulary or retail arrangements.
• Advise on the contracting process and installation process for renewing and new sales clients.
• Effectively communicate with Leadership, SAM, and other business partners to deliver ESI opportunities and manage financial results.
• Manage portfolio of clients to Strategic Plan and Budget targets by managing client-specific rate relief.
• Ensure client contract compliance by reviewing and approving financial performance guarantees.
• Provide training and support to Junior/Senior Risk and Underwriting Analysts.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of the PBM Industry and ESI-specific pricing methods.
• Experience in pricing strategy development and execution.
• Strong negotiation skills and experience in customer-facing roles.
• Ability to conduct complex financial analyses and risk assessments.
• Proven track record of managing a book of business with a focus on profitability.

• Experience in training and mentoring junior staff.
• Familiarity with Request for Proposals (RFPs) and market checks.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling.
