About the position

The Risk and Underwriting Senior Advisor role is a senior contributor position responsible for managing pricing activities to support Sales and Account Management for both renewing and new sales clients. This role involves developing client-specific pricing strategies, leading complex pricing activities, and providing training and support to junior analysts. The advisor will also conduct risk assessments, negotiate customer rates, and ensure compliance with pricing guidelines, all while gaining in-depth knowledge of the PBM industry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert content/professional leadership on complex Risk & Underwriting assignments/projects.
  • Manage assigned book of business focused on attaining profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
  • Perform case-specific risk assessments.
  • Conduct account level rate development and customer negotiations on a complex book of business.
  • Develop and monitor account earnings plans to achieve growth and profitability.
  • Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, products, and pricing.
  • Partner with sales department and brokers to deliver customer presentations and act as a financial consultant on case-specific issues.
  • Influence underwriting best practices and provide input to matrix partners on product development and pricing.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses with potential financial impact.
  • Advise on contracting process and install process for renewing and new sales clients.
  • Communicate effectively with Leadership, SAM, and other business partners regarding financial results and opportunities.
  • Manage portfolio of clients to Strategic Plan and Budget targets by managing client-specific rate relief.
  • Ensure client contract compliance by reviewing and approving financial performance guarantees.
  • Provide training and support to Junior/Senior Risk and Underwriting Analysts.
  • Represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Ensure pricing model accuracy by reviewing, analyzing, and reporting for all pricing requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Finance.
  • 5+ years relevant work experience in pricing and/or underwriting.
  • Experience in Pharmacy Benefits Manager (PBM), Managed Care, Healthcare, or Pharmaceutical preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, advanced ability with Microsoft Office & Excel.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude; ability to take ownership and deliver results; experience in deal pricing and optimization or underwriting; strong understanding of client analytics, financials, and value tradeoffs.
