About the position

The position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) at a children's hospital that specializes in treating children and adolescents in psychiatric crisis. The RN will be responsible for the admission process, medication administration, and crisis management, with a focus on providing individualized treatment plans to promote the highest level of functioning for patients. The role emphasizes collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care and effective communication with physicians and families.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the admission process for consumers including nursing assessments and medical checklists.
  • Supervise routine task assignments of unit staff including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and Behavioral Aides/Specialists.
  • Administer medications and provide education on their uses and potential side effects.
  • Monitor consumers for potential side effects of medications and report findings to the physician.
  • Communicate daily with the physician regarding the consumer's physical and mental status.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and assist in the development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Provide emergency care as needed according to AltaPointe Policy & Procedures.
  • Assist consumers with personal care issues such as bathing and toileting.
  • Document consumer problems, treatment goals, and services provided in a clear and timely manner.
  • Participate in Performance and Improvement activities and AltaPointe committees as required.

Requirements

  • Current Alabama Registered Nurse License.
  • Experience in psychiatric nursing or working with children and adolescents in crisis situations.
  • Ability to administer medications and monitor for side effects.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with consumers, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks required for patient care, including lifting and assisting with activities of daily living.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a hospital setting or with psychiatric care.
  • Certification in CPR and other emergency response techniques.
  • Knowledge of child/adolescent development and mental health issues.
