About the position

The RN - Assistant Manager for the Operating Room at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for supporting the Nurse Manager in leading the department, overseeing daily operations, and managing departmental staff. This role involves collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care and support for the department 24/7. The position emphasizes leadership, operational management, and adherence to quality standards in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Nurse Manager in providing leadership to the department.
  • Oversee daily operations and manage departmental staff.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the delivery of patient care.
  • Utilize the nursing process to ensure quality care delivery.
  • Assist with managerial responsibilities including hiring and disciplinary actions.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct effective care coordination between units, nurses, and providers.
  • Perform effectively in emergency situations and assist with patient care as needed.
  • Act as a mentor and resource to staff, medical personnel, patients, and families.
  • Guide staff in quality improvement efforts and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects annually.
  • Provide input on budget preparation and manage supply access for staff.
  • Promote communication within and between departments.
  • Respond to customer complaints in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing required if Bachelor's is not in Nursing.
  • Current State of Texas nursing license or temporary/compact license required.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support required.
  • Professional certification in clinical area or management required within one year of exam eligibility.
  • Three or more years of experience in a clinical area of practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Experience in a managerial role within a healthcare setting.
  • Advanced certifications in nursing or healthcare management.
