About the position

The RN Bedside Mother Baby position at Penn Medicine involves providing comprehensive and quality nursing care to mothers and newborns. The role emphasizes adherence to nursing policies and procedures while ensuring the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of patients. The nurse will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver age-appropriate care and support to patients during the antepartum, postpartum, and newborn phases.

Responsibilities

• Provides age-appropriate care for the population served.
• Demonstrates competency in assessment skills, including admission and shift assessments.
• Performs pain assessments and intervenes to meet patient's comfort needs.
• Plans clinical care based on patient's needs and available resources.
• Performs clinical care in accordance with policy and procedure.
• Evaluates outcomes of nursing interventions and takes appropriate actions.
• Identifies situations that warrant patient rescue and takes appropriate action.
• Adheres to the 5 rights of medication administration and uses the medication administration system per policy and procedure.
• Integrates principles of infection control and prevention into practice.
• Prioritizes and organizes work effectively within assigned shift.
• Assesses antepartum, postpartum, or newborn patients, plans and initiates care, and evaluates effectiveness of interventions.
• Maintains patient safety through utilization of the infant identification process and infant security system.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
• Current Pennsylvania RN License is required.
• CPR certification required.
• NRP certification required, or must complete within 12 months of hire.
• Experience in acute care specialty specific area is preferred.
• STABLE program completion is preferred.
• Certification in clinical specialty is preferred.
