About the position

The Unit Manager at The Avenue at Strongsville is a key management role responsible for overseeing nursing services in a post-hospital rehabilitation and skilled nursing care facility. This position requires a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse to ensure high-quality care and support for residents, while also managing nursing staff and collaborating with administrative and medical teams. The Unit Manager plays a vital role in maintaining the facility's operational success and resident satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and act upon the idea that 100% occupied beds determine success.
  • Make rounds in all departments and confer with nursing staff on assigned units.
  • Report any problems encountered during rounds to the Administrative Office.
  • Inform the Administrative Office of changes in residents' conditions.
  • Confer with other department heads and/or consultants as necessary.
  • Supervise all levels of nursing personnel on all shifts.
  • Assist with in-service education, staff meetings, and orientation as needed.
  • Check nursing care plans for compliance and quality.
  • Follow duties outlined by the Director for specific days or projects.
  • Leave a written report for the Director of Nursing regarding activities during their absence.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in carrying out responsibilities as instructed.
  • Conduct monthly surveys regarding resident care status and compile reports.
  • Handle nursing problems in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
  • Follow up on recommendations from consulting pharmacists.
  • Fill in on floor duty in the event of staffing shortages or problems.
  • Praise and discipline staff members as required and assist in annual performance evaluations.
  • Perform staff appraisals as directed and issue warning notices based on performance deficiencies.
  • Assess staff educational needs resulting from performance deficiencies and schedule in-service education and training to meet these needs.
  • Responsible for Utilization Review activities, including determining residents' required levels of care according to Medicare and Medicaid guidelines.

Requirements

  • Must be a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse currently licensed in the State of Ohio.
  • Genuine interest in geriatric nursing.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and decisions.
  • Physically fit, mentally and emotionally stable.
  • Familiarity with the policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interpersonal interactions.
