About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Diagnostic Imaging at Island Health is responsible for delivering direct and indirect patient care throughout the pre-, intra-, and post-procedural phases. This role is crucial in ensuring optimal patient experiences by collaborating with healthcare providers and supporting patients undergoing imaging procedures. The RN will utilize the nursing process, administer medications, monitor patient responses, and maintain accurate documentation while adhering to hospital policies and standards of care.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process as a basis of care.
  • Coordinates and implements diagnostic and therapeutic orders for each patient.
  • Administers, observes, charts, and reports effects of drugs and procedures accurately.
  • Identifies patients by name and verifies information to ensure correct procedures are performed.
  • Identifies emergent situations and triages patients appropriately.
  • Operates necessary medical equipment competently.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments according to nursing standards.
  • Performs IV insertions and maintains IV fluids as appropriate.
  • Completes assessments and monitors patients undergoing procedures, documenting responses thoroughly.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythms and initiates necessary interventions.
  • Records care information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments as per policy.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of nursing stations and procedure rooms.
  • Educates and supports patients undergoing imaging procedures.
  • Assists with contrast reaction management and monitors patients in MRI with pacemakers.
  • Participates in department Clinical Governance and audits.
  • Maintains patient nursing records and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in an acute hospital setting required.
  • Active Registered Nurse License issued by the WA Department of Health.
  • Active BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program; Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) encouraged.
  • Successful completion of a PICC line course and comprehensive education program regarding PICC placement preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in ambulatory surgery and/or IV sedation strongly preferred.
