The Education Specialist at Albany Medical Center plays a crucial role in achieving the organization's goals through their expertise in education, performance consulting, and leadership. This position is designed to support the development of staff through effective orientation programs and ongoing education initiatives. The Education Specialist collaborates with various stakeholders, including hospital staff, community members, and regulatory agencies, to ensure that educational programs meet the needs of the nursing organization and comply with relevant laws and regulations. In this role, the Education Specialist is responsible for leading the design and implementation of orientation and continuing education programs tailored for nursing staff. This includes evaluating educational outcomes and linking them to quality processes and patient care outcomes. The specialist will also support preceptors in developing orientation programs for new staff, ensuring that all educational activities are aligned with the organization's standards and objectives. The Education Specialist serves as a liaison between Case Management/Social Work and executive leadership, interfacing with various continuum of care providers and public agencies. They interpret laws, policies, and operational procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. Additionally, the specialist demonstrates advanced knowledge of CMS, DOH, OMH, OPWDD laws and regulations, and provides guidance on entitlement eligibility, managed care, and guardianship issues. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and team-building skills, along with the ability to foster collegial relationships both internally and externally. They will be expected to demonstrate effective communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to promoting a collaborative environment where nursing staff can practice at the highest level of licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Supports preceptors in developing orientation programs for new Staff.
  • Responsible for staff orientation and continued development.
  • Demonstrates principles of conflict resolution and promotes consensus building.
  • Represents Case Management/Social Work at organizational committee meetings as directed.
  • Serves as AMC Liaison with executive leadership interfacing with continuum of care providers and public agencies.
  • Interprets laws, policies, operational procedures and objectives, ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures, standards of care and practice, and monitoring processes related to those standards.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and expertise in CMS, DOH, OMH, OPWDD laws and regulations pertaining to access, delivery, transition and financing across the continuum of care.
  • Ensures efficient and effective service provision within regulatory and professional standards.

Requirements

  • A Master's Degree in Social Work with State licensure or a Master's degree in Nursing or a Master's degree in Education with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, or a Master's degree in an allied health field from an accredited institution required.
  • Experience in the field of Clinical Social Work or Nursing with experience in Case Management, Utilization Review and Discharge Planning.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in a nursing or allied health specialty.
  • Previous experience in education program development and teaching preferred.
  • Ability to create collegial and collaborative relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to read and analyze documents.
  • Ability to listen well, engage in interactive dialogues with others, and facilitate communication among groups.
  • Effective organizational, oral and written communication skills, problem solving, program development, computer skills, strong leadership and team building skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pediatric nursing experience.
