The Education Specialist is responsible for supporting preceptors in developing orientation programs for new staff, ensuring that all personnel are adequately prepared for their roles. Additionally, the specialist is tasked with overseeing staff orientation and ongoing development, demonstrating principles of conflict resolution, and promoting consensus building among team members. In this role, the Education Specialist represents Case Management/Social Work at organizational committee meetings and serves as a liaison with executive leadership. This includes interfacing with various continuum of care providers and public agencies, such as skilled nursing facility administrators, vendors, and regulatory agencies. The specialist interprets laws, policies, and operational procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, while also assisting in the development of policies and procedures that align with standards of care and practice. The Education Specialist is expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including those from CMS, DOH, OMH, and OPWDD, which pertain to access, delivery, transition, and financing across the continuum of care. The role also requires expertise in entitlement eligibility, managed care, guardianship, and immigration laws. The specialist ensures that services are provided efficiently and effectively within the established regulatory and professional standards. The principal responsibilities of the Education Specialist include leading the design and development of systems that support staff involvement in practice, research, education, and quality decisions. This position promotes a collaborative environment where nurses can practice at the highest level of licensure. The Education Specialist is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of orientation and continuing education programs for nursing staff, with a focus on evaluating educational outcomes and linking them to quality processes and patient care outcomes. Ideal candidates will have experience in pediatric nursing, although those without this experience are still encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Support preceptors in developing orientation programs for new staff.
  • Oversee staff orientation and continued development.
  • Demonstrate principles of conflict resolution and promote consensus building.
  • Represent Case Management/Social Work at organizational committee meetings as directed.
  • Serve as AMCLiaison with executive leadership interfacing with continuum of care providers and public agencies.
  • Interpret laws, policies, operational procedures and objectives to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures, standards of care and practice, and monitoring processes related to those standards.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise in CMS, DOH, OMH, OPWDD laws and regulations pertaining to access, delivery, transition and financing across the continuum of care.
  • Ensure efficient and effective service provision within regulatory and professional standards.
  • Lead in the design and development of systems that support staff involvement in practice, research, education, and quality decisions.
  • Promote a collaborative environment where nurses practice at the highest level of licensure.
  • Participate in the design, development and implementation of orientation and continuing education programs for nursing staff.
  • Evaluate educational outcomes of programming and link them to quality processes and patient care outcomes.

Requirements

  • A Master's Degree in Social Work with State licensure, or a Master's degree in Nursing, or a Master's degree in Education with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, or a Master's degree in an allied health field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in Clinical Social Work or Nursing with experience in Case Management, Utilization Review, and Discharge Planning.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in a nursing or allied health specialty.
  • Previous experience in education program development and teaching preferred.
  • Ability to create collegial and collaborative relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to read and analyze documents.
  • Ability to listen well, engage in interactive dialogues, and facilitate communication among groups.
  • Effective organizational, oral and written communication skills, problem solving, program development, computer skills, strong leadership and team building skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pediatric nursing experience.
