In this role, the Education Specialist represents Case Management/Social Work at organizational committee meetings and serves as a liaison with executive leadership. This includes interfacing with various continuum of care providers and public agencies, such as skilled nursing facility administrators, vendors, and regulatory agencies. The specialist interprets laws, policies, and operational procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, while also assisting in the development of policies and procedures that align with standards of care and practice. The Education Specialist is expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including those from CMS, DOH, OMH, and OPWDD, which pertain to access, delivery, transition, and financing across the continuum of care. The role also requires expertise in entitlement eligibility, managed care, guardianship, and immigration laws. The specialist ensures that services are provided efficiently and effectively within the established regulatory and professional standards. The principal responsibilities of the Education Specialist include leading the design and development of systems that support staff involvement in practice, research, education, and quality decisions. This position promotes a collaborative environment where nurses can practice at the highest level of licensure. The Education Specialist is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of orientation and continuing education programs for nursing staff, with a focus on evaluating educational outcomes and linking them to quality processes and patient care outcomes.
