About the position

The position serves as a service line educator and master teacher within the Emergency Department, focusing on the assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical and non-clinical educational programs. The role emphasizes adherence to hospital policies and procedures while ensuring patient safety across various age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions that may put patients at risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patient participation in their own care by promoting questions and reporting concerns.
  • Provide CEU contact hours as mandated for hospital accreditation.
  • Identify educational needs and practice gaps by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Develop instructional programs that prescribe educational curricula and strategies.
  • Implement educational curricula utilizing adult learning principles.
  • Analyze educational program evaluations and monitor progress toward goals.
  • Maintain and enhance the quality of instructional programs and effectiveness of education.
  • Maintain current knowledge and competency in the field of expertise.
  • Establish collegial partnerships with other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in instructional programs.
  • Maintain documentation and records of instructional programs as required.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with peers and administrators.
  • Educate staff in the use of equipment, supplies, and policies.
  • Perform as a staff imaging specialist at least one day per week.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Education to meet organizational education requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
  • 3 years of directly related experience (5 years preferred).
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire.
  • Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
  • PALS Certification.
  • ACLS & PALS Instructor certification within 6 months of hire.
  • CEVO Course within 3 months of hire.
  • Arterial Blood Gas course within 3 months of hire.
  • UNMH basic arrhythmia course within 3 months of hire.
