About the position
The Nurse Extern performs routine duties within the limits of training and certification in caring for the hospitalized patient. The Nurse Extern may be cross-trained to operate as a Unit Secretary depending on the demands and needs of the unit in which they are assigned. The care is rendered under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs other duties related to the work described herein.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the care of patients as delegated by the RN with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living)
- Perform patient care tasks and maintain a safe clean environment
- Provide secretary/clerical assistance
- Take vital signs
- Perform accuchecks
- Assist with ambulation
- Conduct simple (non-sterile) dressing changes
- Provide toileting assistance
- Transport patients to other departments
- Answer the phone and fax documents
- Prepare charts
Requirements
- High school graduate
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program and maintaining education requirements of Nursing Program
- AHA BLS certification required
