About the position

The RN I position at Maryland Oncology involves providing professional nursing care to patients under general supervision, adhering to national and company standards. The role requires collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to assess and manage patient needs, particularly in the oncology field. The nurse will be responsible for implementing care plans, administering therapies, and ensuring patient confidentiality while supporting the US Oncology Compliance Program.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
  • Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
  • Collect and record nursing assessments and interventions.
  • Review and report results of health status assessments and physical examinations to the provider.
  • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional material.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
  • Administer medications and blood products accurately.
  • Facilitate dose modification by assessing patients and consulting with physicians.
  • Perform venipuncture and maintain central line catheter devices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments provided.
  • Manage patient medication refill requests and record information in patient charts.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
  • Facilitate communication between patients/families and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Assist patients in locating available community resources.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • Valid RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • 0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology.
