About the position

The RN - Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist at UW Health plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate clinical documentation that impacts patient care and reimbursement. This position serves as a liaison between clinicians and coders, conducting concurrent reviews of inpatient medical records to clarify documentation before patient discharge. The role is integral to maintaining quality outcomes and supporting the hospital's operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a liaison between clinicians and coders.
  • Provide expert information regarding the impact of documentation on patient care and quality outcomes.
  • Conduct concurrent reviews of inpatient medical records to seek clarification of documentation before patient discharge.
  • Work under the direction of the Clinical Documentation Integrity Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Registered Nursing required.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact upon hire required.
  • 3 years nursing, case management, utilization review or quality resources experience in an acute care setting required.
  • 3 years Clinical Documentation Integrity experience highly desirable preferred.
  • 5 years nursing, case management, utilization review, or quality resources experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist preferred.
  • Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner preferred.
