About the position

The Registered Nurse - Wound Care PRN at AdventHealth South Overland Park is responsible for providing direct patient care and coordinating the efforts of a multidisciplinary treatment team for patients with difficult or chronic wounds. This role requires the nurse to administer, supervise, and coordinate the nursing process in the provision of care, striving to maintain and improve patient outcomes. The RN will work within the parameters of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, regulatory standards, and established policies, protocols, and procedures, utilizing pertinent references as guidelines for clinical practice. The position is part of a community-focused healthcare team that believes in the wholeness of each person and serves to uplift others in body, mind, and spirit. In this role, the RN will understand and provide appropriate care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, ensuring timely completion and accurate documentation of detailed wound assessments, consistent wound photography, and total patient care to address the causes of non-healing wounds. The RN will demonstrate proper techniques for specialty dressings and procedures while maintaining strict infection control standards. Education and instructions for patients will be clear and designed to minimize follow-up inquiries. The RN will also communicate effectively with external partners, such as home health nurses and insurance case managers, to assist in the care of wound patients. Additionally, the RN will actively participate in departmental quality improvement activities, focusing on patient-centered quality management measures in care and documentation. For those in a case manager role, the RN will lead a care team, providing clear instructions to team members and ensuring organized quality care while adhering to productivity guidelines. The RN will accept accountability for staff time in the assigned clinic, allowing staff to leave at their direction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care for individuals with difficult or chronic wounds.
  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary treatment team for wound care patients.
  • Administer, supervise, and coordinate the nursing process in the provision of care.
  • Maintain and improve patient outcomes through effective nursing practices.
  • Document detailed wound assessments and maintain accurate records.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for specialty dressings and procedures.
  • Maintain strict infection control standards in practice and guide non-RN associates.
  • Plan, implement, and document education for patients regarding wound care.
  • Communicate effectively with external partners involved in patient care.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement activities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or Graduate of a Technical School required.
  • Kansas Registered Nurse License required.
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association required.
  • Wound Care Certificate (WCC, WOCN, OMS, or WCN) required.
  • No previous experience is required, but 1 to 2 years of position-related experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Nice-to-haves
