About the position

The Charge Nurse at Harris Health and Rehab is responsible for supervising the daily nursing activities within the facility, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves administrative duties, direct patient care, and coordination of nursing services to maintain high-quality care for residents. The Charge Nurse is also tasked with overseeing nursing staff, managing medication administration, and ensuring proper documentation and reporting of patient care activities.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing activities in accordance with regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
  • Assist in coordinating nursing services with other resident services.
  • Perform administrative duties including completing medical forms and reports.
  • Participate in the facility's quality assurance program for nursing services.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans as necessary.
  • Participate in inspections by government agencies.
  • Complete accident/incident reports and chart all relevant information.
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by physicians.
  • Inform the Director of Nursing about staffing needs and personnel issues.
  • Conduct daily rounds to ensure nursing staff are performing their duties correctly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in nursing service areas.
  • Monitor compliance with safety regulations and infection control procedures.
  • Review care plans daily and update as residents' conditions change.
  • Ensure confidentiality of resident care information and uphold residents' rights.

Requirements

  • Valid RN License
  • Experience in care plans
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Knowledge of nursing regulations and standards
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in long-term care facilities
  • Certification in geriatric nursing
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems
