Responsibilities

  • Completes the 12-month New Nurse Residency Program.
  • Administers medication to residents following established procedures.
  • Documents medication administration in a timely manner.
  • Safeguards prescription medications under control.
  • Assesses and evaluates residents for changes in health or comfort.
  • Communicates changes to the Shift Coordinator and physician.
  • Receives and implements Physician's Orders according to policies.
  • Documents significant events related to resident care.
  • Participates in resident status reports during shift changes.
  • Monitors and directs activities of Nurse Assistants on the team.
  • Writes Weekly Nursing Care Summaries based on care plans.
  • Provides care as described in the resident's care plan.
  • Contributes to care plans by adding infectious situations as they occur.
  • May supervise the shift in the absence of the Shift Supervisor.
  • Attends nursing staff meetings and in-services.
  • Responsible for wound care and documentation in the absence of a Treatment Nurse.

Requirements

  • Valid California nursing license or Interim Permit required.
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Education needed to obtain a valid California nursing license.
  • Demonstrates competent professional nursing skills including medication administration, assessment, and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to write legibly and informatively in resident records.
  • Capable of planning and supervising Nurse Assistants' daily activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in nursing is preferred but not required.
