About the position

The position involves managing the activities, workflow, and nursing resources of assigned nursing units at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. The individual in this role is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, both personally and within their unit. This includes conducting hiring, training, directing, developing, and evaluating staff to maintain high standards of patient care. The manager will identify and resolve issues that affect the delivery of patient care services, developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective health service delivery within the unit. Additionally, the role requires monitoring and adhering to budgetary constraints, approving or monitoring expenditures, purchases, and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines. The manager must work in a constant state of alertness and safety, performing other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the nursing unit.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements for self and within unit.
  • Conducts hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.
  • Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services for the assigned unit(s).
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to guarantee efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
  • Monitors and adheres to budget. Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Two years' registered nurse experience, with demonstrated progressive leadership responsibility OR one year of registered nurse experience plus one year of relevant leadership experience.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in the state of work location (Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Wisconsin).
