About the position

Southern Tennessee Regional Health System is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Medical Detox team. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide direct patient care in a Joint Commission accredited hospital that serves the south-central Tennessee region. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing medical detoxification, ensuring that all interventions are performed in accordance with established nursing standards and practices. The role requires a compassionate approach to patient care, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate comprehensive care for patients. As a Registered Nurse, you will be tasked with performing various nursing duties, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments. You will document all patient care activities meticulously and monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions to the care team, physicians, patients, and their families. Assisting patients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, nutrition, and ambulation is also a key responsibility. You will evaluate the learning needs of patients and their families, providing education tailored to their specific circumstances and cultural backgrounds. In addition to direct patient care, you will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient transfers, discharges, and referrals, while also addressing any spiritual or psychosocial support needs. Advocacy for the physical and emotional well-being of patients is paramount in this role. You may also be required to perform duties typically assigned to Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Medical Assistants (MA), or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) as needed. Participation in staff meetings, in-service training, and various committees is expected, along with adherence to the policies and procedures of Southern Tennessee Regional Health System. The position may require working scheduled shifts, including overtime, and accepting on-call duties as directed. Maintaining a professional appearance in compliance with the dress code is essential, and all employees must comply with safety standards regarding occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
  • Documents patient care given and monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patients and/or families and provides appropriate education based on age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • May perform duties of CNA, MA, or LPN as needed.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training, projects, and committees as assigned.
  • Adheres to and supports policies and procedures of STRHS.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required.
  • Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with the State of Tennessee or a licensed Registered Nurse from a Compact State with the proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
