About the position

Southern Tennessee Regional Health System is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Medical Surgical team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a Joint Commission accredited hospital that serves the patients of south-central Tennessee. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable standards of practice. Your responsibilities will include performing plan of care interventions such as medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments. You will document patient care, monitor and communicate patient conditions to the care team, physicians, patients, and families. Assisting patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, nutrition, and ambulation, will be a key part of your role. You will also collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharges, and addressing spiritual and psychosocial support needs. Evaluating the learning needs of patients and their families and providing appropriate education will be essential. In addition to your nursing duties, you may be required to perform tasks typically assigned to Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Medical Assistants (MA), or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) as needed. Participation in staff meetings, in-service training, and committees is expected, along with adherence to the policies and procedures of Southern Tennessee Regional Health System. The role may require working scheduled shifts, including overtime, and accepting on-call duties as directed. Maintaining a professional appearance in compliance with the dress code is also important. Please note that this position involves occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
  • Documents patient care given and monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patients and/or families and provides appropriate education based on age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Acts as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • May perform duties of CNA, MA, or LPN as needed.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service, projects, and committees as assigned.
  • Adheres to and supports policies and procedures of the STRHS.
  • Works scheduled shifts including overtime, when necessary, and accepts on-call schedule as directed.
  • Maintains a neat and professional appearance in compliance with the existing dress code.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nursing is required.
  • Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with the State of Tennessee or a licensed Registered Nurse from a Compact State with the proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
