About the position

The RN - New Grad position in the Medical Unit at University Hospitals is designed for newly graduated registered nurses who are eager to provide safe and efficient nursing care to patients and their families. This role emphasizes the application of the nursing process to assist patients in attaining, maintaining, regaining, and sustaining optimal health status. The successful candidate will implement effective relationship-based nursing care, demonstrating technical skills that ensure safe practice and positive patient outcomes. Clear communication and effective collaboration with the healthcare team are essential to optimize patient care and clinical operations. In this position, the nurse will be responsible for developing their professional skills and contributing to the overall practice of nursing within the unit. Leadership qualities that influence clinical and operational outcomes are highly valued. The RN will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards set forth by the organization. This includes adhering to the requirements for maintaining Protected Health Information (PHI) securely and safely, as outlined in the annual training and the UH Code of Conduct. The role requires a commitment to continuous learning and professional development, ensuring that the nurse remains knowledgeable about the nursing process and practice. The RN will utilize a variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed clinical therapies, ensuring that they are well-prepared to handle the demands of the medical unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe and efficient age-specific nursing care to patients and families using the nursing process.
  • Implements the nursing process by delivering effective relationship-based nursing care.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required based on clinical area standards.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required based on clinical area standards.
  • Diploma in Nursing or Associate's Degree in Nursing is required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred; Master's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing process and practice is required.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed clinical therapies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) is preferred.
