About the position

The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) at Baylor Scott & White Health is a licensed professional responsible for coordinating patient care in the operating room. The RN utilizes the BSWH nursing model to assess patients, develop individualized care plans, and ensure safe transitions through healthcare. Responsibilities

  • Conduct accurate assessments according to standards using clinical reasoning.
  • Identify and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans, modifying them as necessary to meet outcomes.
  • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supporting evidence-based practice changes.
  • Create a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and families, managing emotional and physical pain.
  • Recognize and appreciate the unique differences of patients and families, incorporating these into care plans.
  • Preserve and protect the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families.
  • Facilitate learning for patients, families, and nursing staff, integrating education throughout care.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and the community to implement care plans, delegating tasks appropriately.
  • Utilize problem-solving strategies and resources for effective patient care.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or BLS within 30 days of hire
  • 2 years of experience in cardiovascular operating room nursing
  • Strong writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care standards
  • Ability to develop and implement care plans
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • General computer skills including electronic medical documentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electronic medical documentation systems
  • Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention
  • Familiarity with nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
