About the position

The Psychiatric/Mental Health RN or LPN at PrairieCare is responsible for managing the care of adolescent and young adult patients experiencing psychiatric and mental health disorders. This role involves conducting psychosocial, physical, and behavioral assessments, providing individualized interventions, and ensuring quality nursing care in accordance with PrairieCare's policies and procedures. Responsibilities

  • Assess and monitor child and adolescent patients' daily functioning and assist in mental health symptom management.
  • Demonstrate informed, results-oriented critical thinking to ensure safe, quality care.
  • Collaborate with the team, seek timely advice, and accept feedback to ensure safe patient care.
  • Effectively manage therapeutic approaches to reduce the use of restraint and seclusion.
  • Plan and facilitate nursing groups with patients during scheduled shifts.
  • Conduct nursing assessments upon admission and manage discharge planning.
  • Document patient assessment findings and progress towards problem resolution in EHR.
  • Administer medications accurately and monitor for side effects.
  • Educate patients and families about medications and treatment plans.
  • Perform interventions as ordered by physicians in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and provide care in a non-judgmental manner that respects patient diversity.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a Nursing Degree; BSN preferred.
  • Current licensure as an RN or LPN with the Minnesota State Board of Nursing.
  • Evidence of 1 year of psychiatric/mental health nursing experience within the past two years preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve in stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate professionally in both verbal and written formats.
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office products and EHR.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional certifications in Mental Health Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and/or Holistic Health.
