About the position

The Procedural Nurse in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery plays a critical role in providing comprehensive care to a diverse patient population, including those with trauma, head and neck cancer, and various facial and jaw abnormalities. This position involves performing procedures, conducting physical assessments, administering moderate sedation, and ensuring adherence to established standards of care. The nurse will also be responsible for patient education, documentation, and supporting the development of other healthcare staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned procedures and physical assessments.
  • Evaluate and revise care plans based on changes in patient status during procedural sedation.
  • Administer moderate sedation under the order of a provider.
  • Assess patient's health history and perform medication reconciliation.
  • Conduct telephone triage and assess patient's problems or concerns by phone.
  • Educate patients on pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Take necessary imaging for surgical planning, including 2D and 3D imaging.
  • Ensure documentation of care is complete and accurate.
  • Provide health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
  • Act as a preceptor and support the development of other staff and healthcare students.
  • Provide leadership for initiatives aimed at improving quality of care or clinical outcomes.
  • Assist Nursing Supervisor/coordinator in developing departmental standing orders.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Experience in procedural nursing or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of moderate sedation administration and patient assessment.
  • Ability to perform advanced nursing activities, including IV placement and chemotherapy administration.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in oral maxillofacial surgery or similar specialty.
  • Certification in sedation nursing or related field.
  • Familiarity with 2D and 3D imaging techniques.
