About the position

Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for our Orthopedic/Spine Unit. This full-time position requires a commitment of 36 hours per week, with shifts scheduled from 7 AM to 7 PM. Our unit is a high-paced, high-energy environment, specializing in the care of spinal surgery patients as well as medical patients. We pride ourselves on our exceptional teamwork and dedication, and we are actively working towards becoming a Center of Excellence and achieving Joint Commission Certification for our Spine Program. As a member of our team, you will be part of a 36-bed Orthopedic Unit that maintains a 5:1 patient-to-nurse ratio, ensuring that our nurses can provide the highest level of care. Our unit is one of only two inpatient units dedicated to post-operative spine patients, and we emphasize advanced certification and education. We offer a personalized orientation process that focuses on equipping our nurses with the skills necessary for competent care of postoperative spine patients. Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the Orthopedic/Spine Unit.
  • Monitor and assess patient conditions, including vital signs and post-operative recovery.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families about post-operative care and recovery processes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program.
  • Current RN license within the hiring state or compact licensure.
  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Prolonged standing and walking required during shifts.
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification or completion within 30 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in orthopedic or spine nursing preferred.
  • Advanced certifications in nursing specialties related to orthopedic care.
