About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in coordinating the efforts of a multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care to patients. This position involves delivering direct patient care and collaborating with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN utilizes the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to maintain and improve patient health. This role requires a commitment to professional accountability and growth, as the RN strives to advance from novice to expert, becoming an evidence-based scholar in nursing practice. The RN is expected to serve as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health, ensuring adherence to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and all regulatory standards. In this position, the RN will demonstrate leadership and management skills while actively participating in various team activities such as bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding. The RN is responsible for implementing care plans that address the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients, ensuring patient safety by following established policies and utilizing safety resources. The RN will also prioritize nursing interventions based on patient needs and available resources, contributing to a collaborative and supportive healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients.
  • Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to maintain and improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills in nursing practice.
  • Participate in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, and multidisciplinary patient rounds.
  • Implement care plans according to identified patient needs.
  • Prioritize nursing interventions based on patient needs and unit activities.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
