About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Orthopedics at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to patients within their scope of responsibility. In this PRN position, the RN will work primarily during the day shift, providing flexibility in scheduling while ensuring that patient care is prioritized. The RN will actively participate in various team activities, including bedside shift reports, safety huddles, and multidisciplinary rounds, to gather essential information for patient care and facilitate smooth transitions between care providers. The RN is expected to demonstrate leadership and management skills, advocating for patients and serving as a role model for the mission and values of Shawnee Mission Health. The RN will also engage in professional development, striving to advance their skills from novice to expert and becoming an evidence-based scholar. This commitment to growth is essential for providing optimal patient care and ensuring adherence to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and established healthcare protocols. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients.
  • Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills in nursing practice.
  • Participate in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, and multidisciplinary patient rounds.
  • Implement care plans based on identified patient needs.
  • Provide patient teaching and discharge planning.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
