About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Outpatient Chemotherapy at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in coordinating care for patients undergoing chemotherapy. This position involves direct patient care, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and the application of the nursing process to enhance patient outcomes. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, implementing care plans, and providing education to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients within the RN's scope of responsibility.
  • Provide direct patient care to individuals undergoing chemotherapy.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members in delivering care.
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to maintain and improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate accurate assessment skills appropriate to the patient population.
  • Ensure patient safety by adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Implement a plan of care according to identified physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.
  • Provide routine and specialized teaching/discharge planning throughout the patient stay.
  • Document all pertinent information in a timely manner according to departmental policy.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with an Associate's Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (to be obtained within 5 years of employment).
  • Current Kansas Registered Nurse License.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification obtained through the American Heart Association.
