About the position

The position involves providing direct nursing care to patients in psychiatric pods during night shifts, including weekends. The role requires adherence to hospital policies and procedures while ensuring quality patient care and safety. The nurse will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to implement individualized care plans and participate in the orientation and training of new personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required
  • Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent has been obtained
  • Participate in orientation and assume precepting responsibilities upon successful completion of preceptor training
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information
  • Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Seek opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions that may put a patient at undue risk
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment situations that they don't understand

Requirements

  • Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • 1 year of directly related nursing experience
  • Current RN license in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers certification within 30 days of hire

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Bilingual in English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
  • Nationally Certified in area of specialty
  • PALS certification
  • TNCC and/or ENPC certification
