About the position

The Pre/Post Registered Nurse at KU MedWest Ambulatory Surgery is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients from admission through discharge. This role involves assessing patient needs, implementing care plans, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes in alignment with the facility's mission and values. The nurse will prepare patients for surgery, monitor their recovery, manage pain, administer medications, and provide discharge instructions, all while being part of a collaborative peri-operative clinical team.

Responsibilities

• Assess and plan patient care from admission to discharge.
• Implement critical pathways to achieve patient outcomes.
• Prepare patients for surgery and provide post-operative care.
• Conduct ongoing nursing assessments including vital signs and point of care testing.
• Administer medications safely according to facility guidelines.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with patients and team members.
• Participate in quality improvement projects to enhance patient care and safety.
• Delegate tasks as necessary and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Unrestricted RN license recognized in the state of Kansas.
• High level of organization and prioritization skills.
• Current BLS certification or within 6 months of hire.
• Current ACLS certification or within 6 months of hire.
• Current PALS certification or within 6 months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• BSN preferred.
• Nursing certification preferred.
• Previous experience in an ASC preferred.
• Two years critical care or Pre/Post nursing experience preferred.
