About the position

The Director of Clinical Operations is responsible for overseeing the overall direction of hospice clinical services, ensuring that the services meet quality standards and align with the organization's philosophy. This role involves establishing, implementing, and evaluating goals and objectives for hospice services, as well as managing clinical teams and operations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversees all direct and indirect patient services provided by clinical personnel.
  • Provides guidance and counseling to coordinators and Clinical Supervisors to improve hospice care services.
  • Assists Clinical Supervisors in managing clinical teams and planning.
  • Acts as the Executive Director/Administrator in their absence, with authority to make decisions on their behalf.
  • Helps in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care.
  • Assists in the preparation and administration of the organization's budget.
  • Interprets operational indicators to detect changes in census and volume that could impact staffing and revenues.
  • Evaluates performance of Clinical Supervisors and assists them in developing evaluation skills for clinicians.
  • Hires, evaluates, and terminates organization personnel.
  • Conducts annual evaluations on clinicians, or more frequently if indicated.
  • Oversees maintenance of patient clinical records and statistics for evaluation and reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws regarding clinical records.
  • Maintains adequate inventory supplies and equipment for patient services.
  • Develops and evaluates the orientation program for new personnel.
  • Plans and implements in-service and continuing education programs for personnel.
  • Assists with the evaluation of organization performance via performance improvement programs.
  • Ensures quality and safe delivery of hospice services.
  • Assists in the development of organization goals and policies.
  • Stays informed about changes in nursing and hospice care, sharing information with personnel.
  • Promotes hospice referrals in the healthcare community.

Requirements

  • Registered nurse in the State with current licensure to practice professional nursing.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program preferred.
  • Three years of management experience preferred.
  • Experience in a hospice or related healthcare organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.
  • Ability to market and deal tactfully with customers and the community.
  • Excellent observation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of business management, governmental regulations, and CHAP standards.
