About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) provides professional nursing care focused on the comfort and well-being of patients with cardiovascular conditions. This role involves preparing equipment, assisting physicians during examinations, administering medications, and monitoring patient vital signs. The RN participates in patient care planning and implementation, ensuring safe aseptic techniques and procedures while offering leadership to support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care for patients in the CVICU.
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient vital signs.
  • Change dressings and clean wounds as necessary.
  • Observe and maintain records on patient care, condition, reaction, and progress.
  • Participate as primary nurse, associate nurse, or team leader in patient care planning and implementation.
  • Direct and assist in carrying out safe aseptic techniques and procedures.
  • Offer leadership and direction to support staff within the department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Texas State RN License.
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire/transfer date.
  • One-year experience in nursing preferred, but new graduates are accepted.

Nice-to-haves

  • NIHSS certification required within 90 days of hire/transfer date for specific units.
  • EKG certification within 90 days of hire/transfer date for specific units.
  • TNCC certification required within 18 months of hire/transfer date for Trauma ICU.
  • ENPC or PALS certification required within 18 months of hire/transfer date for Trauma ICU.
