About the position

The RN School Nurse at Amergis is responsible for delivering nursing care and services in a school setting, ensuring the health and safety of students. This role involves applying the nursing process, coordinating care with local health agencies, and adhering to healthcare standards and policies. The School Nurse may also supervise contracted services and is expected to communicate effectively with school personnel and parents regarding student health needs.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, and evaluate student care needs.
  • Demonstrates the provision of skilled nursing care in accordance with prescribed orders/IHP.
  • Performs interventions, treatments, and medication administration according to identified priorities.
  • Monitors and documents the effectiveness of interventions, treatments, and medications.
  • Completes documentation per client expectations.
  • Coordinates and facilitates services between the school, local health agencies, and community resources.
  • Communicates with school district personnel about the student's plan of care/IHP.
  • Notifies relevant parties regarding changes in student condition and necessary physician orders.
  • Collaborates with school and health personnel to design and meet student health care needs.
  • Evaluates and assures student safety at all times.
  • Adheres to Amergis Healthcare and school district policies and standards.
  • Maintains accuracy in student health records.
  • Participates in student care conferences/IEP as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited registered, practical, or vocational nursing program.
  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical, Licensed Vocational, or Registered Nurse in the state(s) where practicing.
  • One year of professional experience preferred.
  • Complies with accepted professional standards and practices.
  • Willingness to participate in skill advancement, if applicable.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate as per contract or state regulation.
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and clients via strong communication skills; proficiency in English may be required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
