About the position

The RN School Nurse at The Hotchkiss School is responsible for providing healthcare services to students and staff, promoting wellness, and managing health-related issues within the school environment. This role involves assessing immunization documentation, developing health plans for students with specific needs, conducting health assessments, and providing health counseling. The nurse will also implement health management protocols, especially in emergencies, and facilitate referrals for further health interventions.

Responsibilities

• Utilizing existing resources to provide appropriate healthcare to students and staff.
• Assessing the status of student and staff immunization documentation.
• Promoting an optimal level of wellness among students and staff by providing preventative healthcare services, such as immunizations.
• Developing and implementing health plans for students with specific health needs.
• Carrying out health assessments and screening for deficits in vision, hearing, growth, and/or development of students.
• Planning and implementing school health management protocols and procedures, especially for emergency situations.
• Providing referrals to parents or staff for intervention and remediation of abnormal or worrying health conditions affecting students.
• Providing ongoing health counseling to students, parents, and staff.
• Completing medical paperwork when necessary.
• Attending various school meetings.

Requirements

• 2 years of nursing experience (preferred).
• BLS Certification (preferred).
• RN License (preferred).
• Ability to commute to Lakeville, CT 06039 (required).
• Ability to relocate to Lakeville, CT 06039 before starting work (required).
