About the position
The RN Shift Coordinator for the Hematology/Oncology Care Unit is responsible for directing patient care activities and ensuring continuity of care for children with hematological and oncology needs. This role involves collaboration with unit leadership to manage and evaluate clinical care, while also supporting the development of nursing practices based on evidence and best practices. The Shift Coordinator plays a key role in patient assessments, staff management, and fostering a safe and effective care environment.
Responsibilities
- Direct the activities of the patient care delivery team on a shift-to-shift basis.
- Participate in planning, managing, and evaluating unit-based clinical care.
- Ensure continuity of care is maintained for patients.
- Conduct patient and family assessments to meet their needs.
- Modify staffing levels and skill mix as necessary.
- Function as a resource for patient discharge planning and clinical issues.
- Demonstrate effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Educate patients and families, ensuring their educational needs are met.
- Promote safety and address unsafe behaviors among team members.
- Participate in performance improvement processes and community activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required).
- 2 years of nursing experience (Required).
- 1 year of recent pediatric experience in a comparable setting (Required).
- Registered Nurse license in the District of Columbia.
