About the position
The RN Staff in the PACU at Highlands Medical Center is responsible for coordinating comprehensive nursing care for patients in the post-anesthesia care unit. This role involves patient and family education, leadership in nursing practices, and collaboration with other healthcare departments to ensure high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates the total nursing care for patients admitted to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
- Maintains the standard of ASPAN for the basis of nursing care.
- Coordinates nursing care based on arrhythmia recognition and treatment.
- Maintains competency in airway management and respiratory equipment.
- Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs, and problems.
- Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the supervisor.
- Assists supervisor with orientation, instruction/training, and supervision of subordinate personnel.
- Supervises students and participates in educational programs.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars and workshops.
- Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures equipment is maintained safely.
- Assists team members in giving care to patients or administers direct care when needed.
- Establishes and maintains communication with patients and their families.
- Assists with emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients.
- Participates actively in committees for improvement of nursing care.
- Provides direct care and assessment on patients of varying ages.
Requirements
- Graduate of state board School of Nursing with current Alabama or multi-state licensure.
- Minimum of three years prior experience as a practicing RN.
- Critical skilled nursing care experience required.
- ACLS and PALS certifications required.
