About the position

The RN - Surgery at Jackson Purchase Medical Center provides direct patient care in the operating room, performing both circulation and scrub nurse duties. This role is essential in assisting surgeons during various surgical procedures and ensuring comprehensive patient care through monitoring, documentation, and collaboration with the healthcare team. The RN will advocate for patients' physical and emotional well-being while also educating patients and their families about care plans and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Perform circulation and/or scrub nurse duties in the operating room.
  • Assist surgeons in a variety of surgical procedures.
  • Administer medications, collect specimens, and provide clinical treatments.
  • Plan and document patient care given, monitoring and recording patient conditions.
  • Communicate patient conditions to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene and nutrition.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers and discharges.
  • Evaluate learning needs of patients and families, providing appropriate education.
  • Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Current RN license in the state of KY.
  • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Circulating experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of hire.
