About the position
The Team Leader in nursing is responsible for overseeing the quality of nursing care delivered on a specific unit, serving as a role model for performance standards. This position involves direct patient care, coordination of staff orientation, performance evaluation, and continuing education. The Team Leader collaborates with the Manager to plan and manage resources necessary for effective patient care delivery.
Responsibilities
- Role model and exceed the Standards of Performance for nursing care.
- Assume accountability for the quality of nursing care on the unit.
- Provide direct patient care and oversee care given by other nursing personnel.
- Coordinate orientation of new staff members.
- Participate in evaluating staff performance and provide continuing education.
- Assist the Manager in planning and managing resources for patient care.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- BSN required.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Indiana.
- Maintains required certifications per unit (e.g., de-escalation training).
- Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider certification required.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a health care facility preferred.
- Previous psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional references and technical procedures.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence effectively.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts for dosage calculations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Competency in computer systems and electronic medical records.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in psychiatric nursing is preferred.
