About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for overseeing the care of residents in a designated area of a nursing facility. This role involves ensuring quality care through effective communication with staff, assessing residents' needs, supervising Certified Nursing Aides, administering medications, and maintaining accurate documentation. The RN plays a crucial role in evaluating both resident care and staff performance, while also participating in staff meetings and in-service training.

Responsibilities

  • Receives report from the off going shift.
  • Reviews communication systems to be knowledgeable of any unusual occurrences during the previous shifts.
  • Assigns Certified Nursing Aides and other designated personnel assuring each resident's needs will be met during the assigned shift.
  • Gives report to Certified Nursing Aides.
  • Makes rounds of the assigned unit frequently during the shift providing intervention as needed.
  • Prepares and administers medications as ordered.
  • Provides special procedures as ordered.
  • Completes the treatments as ordered and assesses/document results.
  • Supervises the meal service for each resident on the unit.
  • Continually assesses and reassesses residents for risk of complications.
  • Observes progress and quality of work of the Nursing Assistants.
  • Documents on nurse's notes as per policy.
  • Reviews information, reassesses residents, and writes monthly nurse progress notes.
  • Admits residents as required.
  • Assists in the ordering and reviewing of results of laboratory tests.
  • Notifies the physician, resident and family/POA of any new or unusual findings.
  • Assists with auditing charts and correcting consultant reports.
  • Reviews, signs and provides intervention for Certified Nursing Aides documentation.
  • Counts required medications with oncoming and off going shifts.
  • Makes appropriate notes in Communication Books.
  • Assists in keeping other departments informed of resident's change of condition.
  • Assists in providing in-services for assigned staff.
  • Keeps nurse's station and medication room clean.
  • Reviews and updates Medication Administration Record and other records for the upcoming month.
  • Makes rounds toward end of shift to assure area is in order for the oncoming shift.
  • Gives report to oncoming shift.
  • Reviews and assures there is adequate staffing for the oncoming shift.
  • Keeps all resident information confidential and follows HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Currently registered with the state agency for nursing licensure.
  • Hold a valid nursing license in the state of employment.
  • Must maintain a License according to the Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE).
  • Must continue to maintain background checks in good standing according to the requirements of Department of Aging & Disability Services (DADS).
  • Demonstrates leadership and managerial ability.
  • Ability to organize, plan and supervise care and staff.
  • Maintains effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Good emotional, mental and physical health with sound judgment.
  • Willing and capable of providing emergency assistance to residents.
  • Courteous in working with residents, families and employees.
  • Maintains a neat, well-groomed and professional appearance.
  • Desire to work with geriatric residents and their needs.
  • Willing to be in the facility ready to begin assigned duties on time.
  • Willing to work weekdays and weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to evaluate geriatric residents' needs and provide timely intervention.
  • Ability to evaluate nursing staff needs and provide timely education.
