About the position

This position involves directing the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with the current rules, regulations, and guidelines governing the long-term care facility. The role requires the completion of all administrative functions as outlined in the job description, as well as performing all tasks related to drug administration as a Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include administering prescribed medications and treatments, ensuring proper medication management, and maintaining adequate supplies for nursing needs. The RN will also be involved in the orientation of newly admitted residents, making rounds with physicians, and participating in the facility's quality assurance program.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants.
  • Complete all administrative functions as outlined in the job description.
  • Perform all tasks as a RN pertaining to drug administration.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Ensure that prescribed medication for one resident is not administered to another.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of medications, supplies, and equipment.
  • Prepare rooms for new admissions and greet newly admitted residents.
  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
  • Consult with the resident's physician regarding care and treatment.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the quality assurance program.
  • Participate in facility surveys by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update the resident's written discharge plan.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Maintain the Daily Census Report and submit it to the Business Office.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms and charting.
  • Ensure accurate charting and documentation.
  • Encourage attending physicians to review treatment plans and sign orders.
  • Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians.
  • Chart nurses' notes in an informative manner.
  • Assist physicians during treatments and examinations.
  • Observe patients and notify supervisors of significant conditions.
  • Take vital signs and detect deviations from normal.
  • May serve as a leader for a group of nursing personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident care information.
  • Perform other nursing care functions as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or be a graduate of an approved RN program.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active RN license to practice in this state.
  • BLS / CPR and AED Program Certification is required.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and regulations.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
