About the position
The Road Maintenance Worker position at the County of El Paso involves operating trucks and light equipment to support the maintenance of county roads, bridges, parks, and right-of-ways. The role requires close supervision and includes responsibilities such as driving vehicles, performing minor repairs, and assisting in various maintenance tasks. The worker is expected to contribute to a safe and efficient work environment while providing excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Drive single-axle dump trucks, flat bed trucks, or water trucks.
- Operate small patch compactors for pothole patching on county roads.
- Service and perform minor repairs on assigned equipment.
- Work in a crew to pick up debris and assist in loading and unloading trucks.
- Install and repair guardrails, patch potholes, and maintain traffic signs.
- Paint dividing lines and crosswalks, and set out traffic cones and signs.
- Maintain the warehouse area, including cleaning and landscaping tasks.
- Transport materials and equipment to work sites and dispose of road kill.
- Plow snow and apply sand and salt to icy roads.
- Train on trucks utilized by the Road/Maintenance Worker, including tandem dump trucks.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in operating single-axle trucks and related automotive equipment.
- Valid Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities.
- Possess and maintain a valid state of Texas Class A or Class B commercial driver's license.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations involved in equipment operation.
