About the position

The Roadway Design Engineer at LJB Inc. is responsible for performing engineering design tasks for roadway projects, from preliminary to final design. This role involves developing specifications, cost estimates, and preparing final bid packages while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating design activities with various stakeholders. The position is part of a full-service transportation team that aims to design innovative solutions for transportation challenges.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from preliminary to final design.
• Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
• Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans.
• Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
• Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
• Identify schedule and cost variance and develop/implement recommendations for corrective action.
• Actively participate and serve in leadership positions in transportation-related organizations such as ASHE, ASCE, DBIA.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
• PE preferred; candidates should have the ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire.
• 4+ years of progressive engineering experience in transportation and roadway design.
• Experience working with DOT design projects required; experience with NCDOT or ODOT is a plus.
• Proficiency in Micro Station, Geopak, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD) design software preferred.
