About the position

The Roadway Design Engineer will lead roadway design projects while driving team growth and expanding the firm's regional presence. This role is pivotal for a professional looking to impact the organization's growth trajectory and uphold its core values in transportation engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in growing and leading a high performing roadway/highway design team that may consist of engineers and technicians.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior-level engineers and other team members to aid in their professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment among the team.
  • Serve as a project manager for roadway/highway design projects, overseeing and participating in project execution from initiation to completion.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Perform quality checks on work performed by project team members.
  • Provide leadership in the planning, design, and execution of major projects.
  • Prepare project documents, design, conduct analyses, interpret data, and plan and coordinate the engineering work to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
  • Review and approve project deliverables, including drawings and specifications.
  • Serve as a technical expert in roadway design engineering.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement measures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality of work.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring a high level of service, communication, and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with senior management on strategic planning and assists with business development.
  • Prepare proposals and/or funding applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in Roadway/Highway design engineering
  • Experience working on INDOT and/or KYTC projects preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Experience with project management and accounting software
  • Exceptional organization skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team
