About the position
The Roadway Design Engineer will lead roadway design projects while driving team growth and expanding the firm's regional presence. This role is pivotal for a professional looking to impact the organization's growth trajectory and uphold its core values in transportation engineering.
Responsibilities
- Assist in growing and leading a high performing roadway/highway design team that may consist of engineers and technicians.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior-level engineers and other team members to aid in their professional development.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment among the team.
- Serve as a project manager for roadway/highway design projects, overseeing and participating in project execution from initiation to completion.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies as needed.
- Perform quality checks on work performed by project team members.
- Provide leadership in the planning, design, and execution of major projects.
- Prepare project documents, design, conduct analyses, interpret data, and plan and coordinate the engineering work to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
- Review and approve project deliverables, including drawings and specifications.
- Serve as a technical expert in roadway design engineering.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement measures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality of work.
- Establish and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring a high level of service, communication, and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with senior management on strategic planning and assists with business development.
- Prepare proposals and/or funding applications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- 12+ years of progressive experience in Roadway/Highway design engineering
- Experience working on INDOT and/or KYTC projects preferred
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Experience with project management and accounting software
- Exceptional organization skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team
