About the position

The General Transportation Tech I - II positions at TxDOT's Fort Worth District involve performing routine and moderately complex transportation operations and maintenance support work. The role focuses on roadway maintenance, equipment operation, and traffic control, with an emphasis on safety and community service. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine transportation operations and maintenance support work such as roadway maintenance and repair.
  • Operate light and heavy equipment, including front-end loaders and street sweepers.
  • Conduct preventive and minor maintenance on equipment and complete required reports.
  • Assist in traffic control by placing and gathering cones, warning signs, and barricades.
  • Help the public during emergency situations, including floods and accidents.
  • Identify, repair, and install signs, delineators, and mailbox supports.
  • Provide support to local law enforcement at accident sites.
  • Maintain highways and rights-of-way, including litter removal and debris cleanup.
  • Perform basic welding as needed and use various tools and equipment related to maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • No education required for GTT I; GTT II requires 1 year of experience in transportation engineering support or related work.
  • Valid driver's license at the time of application; must obtain a Commercial Class 'A' Driver's License within 120 days of employment.
  • Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent; related technical training may substitute for experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Commercial Driver's License (preferred)
  • Experience with light and heavy highway equipment (for GTT II)
