About the position

The Robotics Engineer Intern position at Ricoh USA offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in robotics and automation. Interns will work on collaborative robots (cobots) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to enhance workflow and supply management around printers. This role includes exposure to various management levels and culminates in a presentation to the executive team at the end of the internship. Interns will develop technical and professional skills while participating in team-building activities and social events in the Rocky Mountain region.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of robotic systems and components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to brainstorm ideas, solve technical challenges, and implement solutions.
  • Support hardware and software integration efforts for robotics platforms, including the integration of computer vision for perception and environment understanding.
  • Conduct research and analysis on computer vision technologies, algorithms, and applications in robotics and automation.
  • Participate in the implementation and optimization of algorithms for object detection, tracking, and scene understanding.
  • Document project progress, findings, and results for internal reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to the development of prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstrations integrating computer vision sensors with robotics automation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong interest in robotics, automation, and emerging technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C/C++ with experience in image processing and computer vision libraries (e.g., OpenCV).
  • Knowledge of computer vision technologies (e.g., cameras, LiDAR, depth sensors) and their integration with robotic platforms.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effective communication skills and eagerness to learn and grow.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with robotic arms and AMRs, sensors, actuators, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with ROS.
